“You people are telling me what you think I want to know. I want to know what is actually happening.” – General Creighton Abrams

We get into the habit of telling people what they want to hear early.

“Are you enjoying your piano lessons, son?”

“Uh…sure, Dad!”

But this kind of approach has no place in marriage. The marriage relationship is far too close, and too intense, for editing not only our words, but also what our spouse knows.

This does not mean, “say everything that comes into your head”. Far from it!

It’s just this. When you do say something, make sure it’s accurate, just, courteous, and compassionate.
