“If you’re not getting older, you’re dead.” – Tom Petty

We live in a culture that worships youth, and uses older people as figures of fun. Very different from places where age is respected. No wonder a lot of the world doesn’t really like or trust us.

The young person you married is, one day, going to be the old person you bury. Or who buries you.

That’s a fact.

And you may as well enjoy the ride, and enjoy your spouse through all t.he seasons in his or her life.

And live with compassion and kindness and the acceptance of aging, so that you’re a person who’ll invite appreciation as well.

(Oddly enough, after writing this I realized that it’s scheduled to post on my…uh, 29th birthday.)
