“Managing is like holding a dove in your hand. Squeeze too hard and you kill it, not hard enough and it flies away.” – Tommy Lasorda

Tommy Lasorda was the manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers for many years, and his advice also applies to marriage.

Marriage is “give and take”; it can’t be all one or the other.

If we demand too much, we smother our mate. We keep him or her dancing to our tune, and that’s exhausting.

But if we demand nothing, we send a message – I don’t really need you…I like having you around, but I don’t need anything you have to offer.

We need to be needed. We don’t need to be either a doormat, or an ornament.

We need to be on the team.
