He’s right. We can’t do it alone, and if we say we are…we’re fooling only ourselves/

So why do so many couples treat marriage as a contest of individuals? It’s true that we celebrate individuality in the United States, but marriage is meant to subsume individuality into a corporate identity.

You know, like in the Bible…one flesh?

You’ve got to let it go. When you marry, you can only achieve your highest potential by setting yourself aside.

Kind of like “in dying we attain eternal life”.
